OKOVETSKY SAINT SPRING

Every year thousands of pilgrims visit the Okovetsky saint spring in search for healing. The water wells out all the year round, and it is always cold as ice – not more than plus 4 degrees Centigrade. A font and a chapel are built at the spring, and water consecration ceremonies are held here. Believers souse over head and ears into the invigorating water hoping to return their health and gain new strength.
According to an old legend, in the beginning of the 16th century robbers came here at the Whitsun eve to share their loot… But suddenly they saw a miraculous light and the icon of Madonna and the Holy Cross appeared. The robbers repented, forsook their misdeeds, and soon a vivifying spring started to well out close to that place.
